It inhibits photosynthesis by binding to the D1 protein in the photosytem II complex of susceptile plants. It is absorbed primarily through the roots, but also through the leaves and translocated within the plant through the xylem. It causes the oxidative damages and weeds dies. It controls wide range of weeds and does not leave the residuals on crops.
